Having a first-aid medical team at a your event is an essential part of today's risk management and mitigation.  It helps to ensure the safety and well-being of patrons. The presence of a Get First Aid response team allows for immediate triage of injuries or medical emergencies, providing timely assessment, first aid treatment, and potentially life-saving interventions. Our expertise and preparedness contribute to a safer environment, instilling confidence among participants and spectators alike. 

Types of Medical Staff for Your Event

  • Advanced Medics - Cert IV in healthcare or higher or 3rd Year Student Nurse/Paramedic
  • Senior Advanced Medics - Cert IV in Healthcare or Diploma or higher qualification + 2 or more years of event clinical work

Procedures Each Type of Medic Can Do

First Responders 

First Aiders are bound by specific laws and regulations that govern their scope of practice.Registered First Aiders are authorised to perform the following medical procedures:

  • Basic life support (CPR): Registered First Aiders are trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques to assist individuals experiencing cardiac arrest or respiratory distress.

  • Bleeding control: They can apply appropriate techniques to control bleeding, such as direct pressure, elevation, and the use of tourniquets or pressure dressings.

  • Wound care: First Aiders can provide initial wound care, including cleaning and dressing wounds to prevent infection and promote healing.

  • Splinting and immobilization: They are trained in the proper application of splints and immobilization techniques to stabilize fractures, dislocations, or suspected spinal injuries.

  • Administration of basic medications: In some cases, First Aiders may be authorized to administer basic medications, such as aspirin for suspected heart attacks or auto-injectors for severe allergic reactions, depending on local regulations and their level of certification.

  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use: First Aiders can use AEDs to deliver electric shocks to individuals experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, following appropriate training.

Advanced Medics

Advanced medics have acquired significant theoretical knowledge and practical skills through their training program. Some medical procedures that a third-year nursing or paramedic student may perform include::

  • Basic Life Support (BLS): They can provide basic life support techniques, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for patients in cardiac arrest.

  • Airway management: Advanced medics may assist in airway management procedures, such as inserting oral airways, using bag-valve-mask devices, and performing suctioning to maintain clear airways.

  • Vital signs monitoring: They can assess and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation levels.

  • Assisting with immobilization: Advanced medics may assist in applying cervical collars, splints, and other immobilization devices to stabilize suspected fractures or spinal injuries.

  • Assisting with intravenous (IV) access: Under supervision, they may help in setting up IV lines for fluid administration or medication delivery.

  • Assisting with patient assessments: Advanced medics can assist in conducting patient assessments, gathering information, and documenting relevant findings.

  • Trauma Assessment and Management: Much like your First Responders, Advanced Medics need to be able to assess and manage trauma related injuries. 

Senior Advanced Medics

In this category, A Senior Medic has acquired substantial knowledge and skills through their training and clinical experiences. While their scope of practice is determined by their educational institution, some medical procedures they may perform or assist under supervision include:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS): They can provide basic life support techniques, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for patients in cardiac arrest. 

  • ECG Interpretation: Senior Advanced Medics can also interpret basic 5 Lead ECG, some Senior Advanced Medics who have completed other qualifications may be able to interpret 12 Lead ECG. 

  • Airway management: Senior Advanced medics will provide airway management procedures, such as inserting oral airways, using bag-valve-mask devices, and performing suctioning to maintain clear airways.

  • Vital signs monitoring: They can assess and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation levels.

  • Trauma Treatment including spinal immobilisation:  At any stage of an event when a spinal injury occurs with a Senior Advanced Medic on the ground will be able to guide the State Services on Trauma Score and additional advanced recourses required. 

  • Assisting with immobilisation: Senior Advanced medics may assist in applying cervical collars, splints, and other immobilisation devices to stabilise suspected fractures or spinal injuries.

  • Assisting with intravenous (IV) access: Under supervision, they may help in setting up IV lines for fluid administration or medication delivery.

  • Patient assessments at a higher level: Providing additional support to Advanced medics can perform higher level patient assessments, gathering information, and documenting relevant findings.

  • Team Leadership: Our Seniors have a wide range of experience that allow them to provide the next level of support to the Advanced Medics and First Responders that also work at your event 

  • Emergency Management: With years of experience behind them comes with a greater knowledge of how to handle emergencies at your event. They will work with your event management at a higher level and will work with State Ambulance Services to ensure best outcomes to your event 

  • Trauma extraction management: Working with other agencies to work for the best patient outcome. 

Registered Paramedics and Nurses

Fully qualified Paramedics and Nurses are highly skilled healthcare professionals with the authority to perform a wide range of advanced medical procedures. Some of the medical procedures that they can perform include::

​

  • Advanced Life Support (ALS): Advanced medics are trained to provide advanced assessment, airway management, and interventions, including endotracheal intubation, advanced airway techniques, and administration of a broad range of medications for resuscitation and critical care.

  • Intravenous (IV) access and medication administration:  Advanced medics can establish and manage intravenous lines for fluid administration, medication delivery, and blood sampling. They are authorized to administer a variety of medications, including cardiac medications, pain relief medications, antiemetics, and other drugs within their scope of practice.

  • Advanced cardiac interventions:  Advanced medics can perform cardiac monitoring, defibrillation, synchronized cardioversion, and external pacing to manage cardiac arrhythmias and arrest.

  • Chest decompression: Advanced medics are trained to perform needle thoracostomy for relieving tension pneumothorax, a life-threatening condition where air accumulates in the chest cavity.

  • Advanced airway management: Advanced medics can utilise various advanced airway techniques, including the insertion of supraglottic airway devices, endotracheal intubation, and ventilation support using bag-valve-mask devices.

  • Trauma management: Advanced medics are skilled in assessing and managing trauma patients, including immobilization, hemorrhage control, and advanced wound management.

  • Emergency medication administration: Advanced Medics can administer emergency medications, such as epinephrine for anaphylaxis, naloxone for opioid overdose, and benzodiazepines for seizure management.
